Welcome to our new Designed to Perform series where we will dive a bit deeper into our portfolio of X-Pac® fabrics! Check back often as we will be posting new stories to the series every two weeks.
The first fabric we’ll spotlight is our X-Pac® VX21 Ocean Edition (OE), the sustainable version of our most popular X-Pac® VX21 fabric, which many leading brands rely on.
Why do we, and our customers love X-Pac® VX21 OE? Because it’s waterproof, incredibly durable and uniquely stylish in a tech-savvy way – AND – it also helps protect our planet’s oceans!
The face fabric of new X-Pac® VX21 OE four-layer laminate is constructed with GRS-certified, 100% recycled regen™ Ocean Nylon made from discarded fishing nets. While offering the same strength and durability as conventional nylon, the yarn brand, regen™ Ocean Nylon, reduces CO2 emissions by 73% and fossil resource use by 76% compared to conventional nylon. *
The fabric is reinforced by Dimension-Polyant’s proprietary X-PLY® fiber reinforcement technology made with 100% post-consumer recycled PET. A lightweight taffeta backing, also made with 100% recycled post-consumer PET, provides enhanced stitch holding. For extra weatherproof protection, the fabric is topped off with the highest performing non-fluorinated DWR we’ve found. As with all X-Pac® materials, VX21 OE is made in Dimension-Polyant’s 100 percent carbon neutral plant.
Peak Design, a company committed to become a better and more sustainable company by reducing environmental impact, is the first brand partner to adopt X-Pac® VX21 OE in a unique colorway, Coyote Brown, in its award-winning bag – The Everyday Backpack.
You can learn more about Peak Design Coyote Brown edition bags made with X-Pac® VX21 OE in this popular Danny Packs YouTube review.
X-Pac® VX21 OE laminates are currently available in black, white, artic grey, and sea green and will be presented along with its broad portfolio of additional high-performance X-Pac® laminates at Performance Days Munich later this fall.
